Nav, whose real name is Navraj Singh Goraya, is a talented rapper, singer, songwriter, and record producer. He first made a splash in the music scene with his single “Myself,” which quickly went viral and earned him widespread recognition.

Early Life

Nav, originally Navraj Singh Goraya, was born on November 3, 1989, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Growing up, Nav was exposed to the world of music at a young age, especially after receiving a boombox from his mom during third grade. His uncle, a well-known singer in India, further encouraged Nav’s interest in music by taking him to the studio.

Nav’s musical taste was influenced by classic hip-hop albums from artists like JAY-Z, The Notorious B.I.G., Nas, and many others. He attended West Humber Junior Middle School for his early studies, followed by Thistletown Collegiate Institute for his high school education.

In 2010, Nav enrolled at the Metalworks Institute in Mississauga, Ontario, where he pursued a diploma in Audio Production and Engineering. During his time in school, he produced beats for local Toronto rappers before creating beats for his own music.

Career

Nav’s career took a turn when he had the opportunity to collaborate with the legendary artist Drake, co-producing the hit single Back to Back. Nav’s success continued when he released his first viral single Take Me Simple on Soundcloud in 2015, which has now accumulated over 10 million listens. The following year, Nav released another hit single Myself, which quickly became a massive success.

These hit singles caught the attention of record labels like Weekend’s label XO and Republic Records, leading Nav to produce and feature on Travis Scott’s single Beibs in the Trap, which peaked at #90 on the Billboard Hot 100. In 2017, Nav released his self-titled debut mixtape and collaborated with Metro Boomin for the mixtape Perfect Timing.

Under the record labels XO and Republic Records, Nav released his debut studio album, Reckless, which featured guest appearances from Travis Scott, Lil Uzi Vert, Gunna, and Quavo. The album peaked at number 5 on both the US and Canadian Billboard charts and was certified Gold by RIIA and Platinum by Music Canada. Nav’s second studio album, Bad Habits, was released in 2019 and debuted at #1 on the US Billboard 200.

In 2020, Nav collaborated with Gunna for the single Turks, which became his highest-charting song by peaking at #17 on the Billboard Hot 100. The same year, Nav released his third studio album, Good Intentions, and the deluxe edition titled Brown Boy 2. He also released the commercial mixtape Emergency Tsunami at the end of the year.

Nav’s success has not gone unnoticed as he was nominated for the Juno Award in 2018 in the category of ‘Breakthrough Artist of the Year.’
