Early Life and Career Beginnings
Robin Alan Thicke, born on March 10, 1977, in Los Angeles, California, grew up with entertainment in his blood. His mother, Gloria Loring, was a well-known actress-singer, recognized for her role in “Days of Our Lives”.
His father, Alan Thicke, was also an actor who gained popularity from the sitcom “Growing Pains”. Though his parents separated when he was only seven years old, Thicke’s love for music was well-supported by his family.
As a young musician, Thicke’s father refused to pay for him and his music group, As One, to record a professional demo tape. Instead, his father encouraged him to focus on his studies. However, Thicke’s passion for music did not falter. Al Jarreau, the uncle of one of the group members, believed in Thicke’s talent and funded $1,000 for the demo.
The demo found its way to R&B artist Brian McKnight, who was impressed by Thicke’s sound and signed him to his production company. Thicke’s songwriting abilities were also recognized, and he co-wrote “Anyway” on McKnight’s second album. It was through McKnight that Thicke met Jimmy Iovine, and soon after, at the young age of 16, he signed a recording contract with Interscope Records.

Blurred Lines Lawsuit
You might remember the song “Blurred Lines” by Robin Thicke, Pharrell Williams, and T.I. that came out a few years ago. Well, turns out there was some drama behind the scenes.
Marvin Gaye’s estate sued Robin and Pharrell for copyright infringement, claiming that “Blurred Lines” sounded too similar to Marvin Gaye’s 1977 song “Got to Give It Up”. According to court documents, “Blurred Lines” made a whopping $16,675,690 in profits, making it the highest-grossing song of 2013.
Out of that money, Robin Thicke received $5,658,214, Pharrell Williams got $5,153,457, and T.I. walked away with $704,774. The three record companies involved split the remaining $5,159,245.
However, things didn’t end there. In 2015, a judge ruled that Robin and Pharrell had to pay $7 million for the copyright infringement. In the end, though, the amount was lowered to $5 million.
Other Projects and Appearances
Did you know that Robin Thicke isn’t just a singer? Nope, he’s also an actor and a TV personality. He made his big screen debut in the 2014 movie “Making the Rules”, which was originally titled “Abby in the Summer” and was actually filmed back in 2012.
Robin’s also made plenty of appearances on music-related TV shows, like when he was a judge on ABC’s “Duets” in 2012, alongside big names like John Legend, Jennifer Nettles, and Kelly Clarkson. “Duets” only lasted one season, with 9 episodes, but Robin’s since found a more long-term gig as a panelist on “The Masked Singer”, which is an American reality singing competition.

Personal Life
Robin Thicke, the American singer-songwriter and producer, has had quite the romantic journey. He first met actress Paula Patton when he was just a teen of 14, and they hit it off right away.
They started dating in 1993 and eventually tied the knot in 2005, welcoming their son Julian in 2010. However, after being together for 21 years and married for nearly nine, the couple split in 2014 and finalized their divorce in 2015.
Things got pretty rocky after their separation, with Patton even filing a restraining order against Thicke in early 2017. She accused him of domestic violence, substance abuse, and infidelity. But eventually, they were able to put their differences aside and come to a custody agreement for their son in August of that same year.
Fast forward to 2014, and Thicke meets April Love Geary at a party. The two hit it off and became an item. In February 2018, they welcomed their first child together, followed by another baby in February 2019. Thicke proposed to Geary on Christmas Eve 2018, and they’ve been going strong ever since.
